Marketing firms. Seriously. Few corporations have leadership that actually work with the product or customers. They've all gone and put these marketing firms in charge of growing profits. Marketing's job is to appeal to the lowest common denominator and capitalize on trends. Combine this with the non-existent research department you have idiots making catastrophic descisions because they are completely out of touch with what is going on.
