The problem is twofold in the culture as a whole has been wrecked by centuries of Liberal philosophy and all of us as humans have been wrecked by the consequences of sin.

The best I can offer is some free reading material. First: St. Augustine's Confessions. Augustine was a right bastard; womanizer, drunkard, the works. His philosophical studies and the prayers of his mother Monica lead to a conversion and he is now considered one of the cornerstones of the Christian faith. Confessions is his autobiography.

The second is Chesterton's The Everlasting Man, which takes a 10,000 foot view of Christianity. Chesterton was writing this in the 1920s when Modernism was really taking off and so he wrote it as one who was a complete stranger to the foundations of Western Civilization and even to mankind to an extent.

The most important thing to remember is that the One who formed you in your mother's womb knows all of your sorrows and loves you more than anyone ever can.
