Look, I know that I'm in the minority here but I have no clue where it would be appropriate to ask this. I can't mention my own skin tone while discussing makeup on the places that I frequent right now, but I haven't heard of any other alternatives. You're going to tell me it's reddit, what do you expect, but they seem to have cornered the market on discussion of feminine topics, it seems.
Reddit beauty communities have a real hatred for anyone who dares mention they are white, unless it's done while disparaging other white women. There is a place created specifically for pale women of all races, however, it gets rashes of downvotes on a regular basis and nobody talks about it unless it's to prevent discussion by white people on the main beauty discussion subreddits. It's not even listed on the main hub for beauty-related subreddit links when the brown beauty subreddit is. PaleMUA is barely active. It provides a good catalogue of light shade foundation swatches and lipstick recommendations, but that's about it- no real discussion. If some poor 14 year old white girl just getting into makeup and looking for foundation to cover her hormonal acne dares say that she is pale on the main subreddit, even in a self depreciating way like "I'm pasty sheet white and I can't find an appropriate foundation match!", she will be downvoted to nonexistence, insulted even if she is too young and new to the forum to know that being white and talking about it is forbidden, and then ruthlessly mocked on the sister subreddit where white hate is blatant and unrepentant and perpetuated by 95% other white women. If you say, "I think that bullying all white women and girls, including minors, to the point of silencing them completely might be a little bit cruel, be prepared to get reamed out because apparently black people are still slaves struggling for freedom and companies purposely exclude them because they hate making tainted money, not because there's only a small amount of women out there who are actually ebony-black and an even smaller number who would purchase the products made for them.
I know this is vapid and stupid and that there's a ton of more important things out there for the white race to overcome, but this is a snapshot of the culture your sisters and daughters are immersed in, and if you wish to combat that, perhaps it would be a good idea to get familiar with what they are being told all the time.
If you know any other makeup and beauty discussion forums, even ones that still suck but just a bit less than reddit, could you please direct me to them? I'm really getting sick of this crap and my boyfriend is sick of hearing me complain about it.
