Hi, it looks like you're new. Welcome to Voat!
Voat is a censorship-free community platform where content is submitted, organized, moderated and voted on (ranked) by the users.
Archived Given the recent attempts to censor people on public discourse platforms, is it time to create a sort of official "Marketplace of ideas" platform that has to abide by the constitution? (whatever)

I'm a recovering Libertarian, and I'm still not crazy about governmental control/oversight of something like a Twitter or Youtube, but something needs to be done to protect unpopular opinions. I trust in the willingness and ability of courts to defend the first amendment, but as long as the places where free speech is being expressed are privately owned, there's not much that can officially be done to protect it.

I agree - It's just that the excuse can always be "Oh, well, we're a private company - we can refuse service."
When these things get so big and become such a default public discourse space, it's dangerous to the free flow of ideas, IMO.
