When a person watches ESPN and sportscenter all the time, they are listening constantly to the pundits talking about this team vs that team, and I think part of the reason why they do this is to be able to socialize with their friends and co workers about sports. This does something insidious to their brains, where they are trained and rewarded to regurgitate the content that they hear on the news without really thinking about it. Of course no one is going to lie about who won and what the score was, and what plays were made. These same people are the ones parroting little phrases like "Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences"
If you had to draw a perspective drawing every day for 20 years and then you were left alone to doodle, would you be more likely to draw a perspective drawing, or an impressionist piece? People's brains are shaped a certain way on purpose.

I used to love UFC, these days I rarely watch it and just don't really care for it anymore. I stopped watching tv all together and UFC was one of the final holdouts and if I am being honest, I thought Joe Rogan made the UFC what it is. https://youtu.be/eHQINo3hP9Y?t=17 I can't even watch it without him commentating. There was one really awesome non UFC announcer I could watch as well. I think he was an Aussie or something, he got so fucking worked up it was insane. Some people just have that knack to keep you super focused using their voice, those announcers are the best at it imo.
Edit - also just to clarify, I think Rogan and that other announcer were brainwashing me, as in I agree with the OP. I wouldn't say it made it so I can't think, but I will say it was making me think a certain way, and in essence would shut down all other ways of thinking because of it. Fucking marxism at work, how do we get past it? I am pretty sure we are Egypt, Rome, Babylon, and I am sure hundreds of other civs just playing out again. We call it Marxism but I don't even think we can call it that, because this all happened before Marx.

I've grown fond of international live streams, for this very reason. I don't speak Portuguese, and now I never plan on doing so.

Be an entertaining way to learn though.
