Had a dinner party with a local millionaire on the edge of billionaire a month or so ago. He was very candid about his disgust with southern California’s environmental politics. His main gripe was that politicians constantly twist or flat out misinterpret scientific data to fit their agenda. He was specifically complaining about the politicians not allowing him to purchase fertile land near a lake to start a new pot farm. The environmental studies showed that his farm would polute the lake a bit but that the increase would be negligible. So obviously someone in the local government started a massive campaign stating that he would destroy the lake.
He was super pissed because the venture had been planned for nearly a decade and was supposed to finally tip him into the billions.

It seemed like everyone I knew in CA was openly, verbally environmental to the point of shaming others.
But the place was filthy- trash everywhere, people littering, people hiding their water usage during a drought knowing the damage it would cause
I live in a conservative area now that is less green but it is far, far, far cleaner than CA. I've never lived in a place as filthy as that state.
