Because it also affects how it penetrates 7.62 brass primers. The default firing pin in most 7.62 AR configurations is the 5.56 pin. Personally I'd prefer a gun in a civil war scenario that doesn't pitch a fit about what I put into it. In a situation like that, Federal isn't always there for you. Also some people aren't made of money and just want a cheap shooter.

Wait... I didnt know the same pin went into the AR 10 thats in the AR15.. Thats kind of odd. Thanks for the info im looking for an Ar10 at some point. Good to know.
