It's worse than just a lack of ability to do something mechanical. It is a complete lack of ability to do anything non-academic. And it stems from boomers completely overvaluing college and insulting labor. Which resulted in schools removing shop and home econ classes. Then there is also the trade industry embracing illegal workers, lowering wages and worsening job conditions. Particularly in states like california where illegal aliens are everywhere. Then there is the service industry that literally opposes resourcefulness and anti-merit hiring.

Lost skills and knowledge, learned helplessness, the explosion of service jobs. It all points to a system that will have major cracks in a few years.

Oh you have no idea how truly bad it is, I work with millennials in a garage who supposedly worked at other shops, we went to the same classes in tech school yet he's always asking me questions.
