I know I've said this before here on Voat but I think it bears repeating. "No one wins a fight," a sensei of mine once said. You learn that you can handle the pain but the pain is the price you pay for that knowledge.

There is an important understanding that "no one wins a war" and that "war is always a failure." These are not joking ideas, but true wisdom that is regularly forgotten and re-learned in the most tragic of ways. In a war you are fighting to not lose.

One caveat that same sensei gave us was that even though no one wins fights, they are often necessary. I'd say the same could apply to war.
