Unfortunately, I haven't moved entirely off the evil Alphabet corporation. One reason is that I have a rather decent collection of music in a playlist on Youtube, some of it live so not as easy to replace. Of course wouldn't be hard to download the video and strip out just the audio.
Anyway, hooktube doesn't seem to support playlists so that's not an option. I did find a way to bypass most of the annoyance with the ads.
Steps:
- Start your playlist.
- Pull down from the top to get the clock/lock screen.
- Listen to music.
- If you hear an ad, press fast forward button.
- Jump back to step 3.
This actually skips the ads even if they have a minimum play time. Does require your finger to be present, but at least the screen contents aren't flashing around and distracting you. If you press the power button and actually lock the screen, Youtube stops playing altogether.
Another option would be avoiding Youtube altogether and listening to @Nadesh's awesome tracks on /v/guitar. But until she releases a full album, maybe this will help.
