Atko. Great job for doing what you do best. Your ass is being kissed plenty, So let's get right down to business:
W h a t _ T h e _ F u c k _ H a p p e n e d ?
The Site's been down for a few days, And in the mean time, we've seen the userbase scatter to places like /r/Voat, the Chans, and Preview.voat.
Now, the site's back online, And Atko says he Isolated the issue, and fixed it.
While I understand that the primary focus was simply to get the site online, I am left wondering what exactly was happening, And What was done to fix the issue, and get the site back up.
In addition to the technical questions, Many others have expressed concern, And fear, as to the fate of Putt, But I'd also like some form of Verification that this is, indeed, the real Atko. While Identity theft is not out of the question, The main focus of this query is directed at the outage itself, and the corrective measures taken.
It's important that we ask these questions, And get Clear answers, in an age where skepticism and rational thought are not just precious commodities, But essential intellectual tools to navigate an ever-changing net.
Atko, I hope we can hear from you soon, So we can be informed, and help postulate solutions to similar problems down the road.

The database was corrupted because some users from SBBH learned how to post submissions without a Title, they then spammed "a hundred" of these darts on the day the servers crashed. Putt being MIA was unable to hit reset switch.

Would seem wierd that a blank text field can corrupt a database? Is the field on a critical constraint or something?
Would seem like there should be a team of volunteers instead of all tech support leaning on one person's shoulders

There logic checks if/and/or loops, I dunno if several of them could do that but its at least possible. That these users are now angrily spamming/pinging me today says they are worried.

Maybe someone posted something illegal. Site was taken down until illegal material was removed. Putt offline and has no idea, or can't do anything where he's at. Atko sees site down, still has access to email addresses, found email, removed material, contacted people who had the site taken down, half hour later it was back up.
Maybe an honest mistake or neglect. Putt was offline, in hospital, or dead. He couldn't fix problem. Atko found problem and fixed it himself. Putt is still nowhere to be found.
Maybe site was taken down in order to add code to the site to track users and IPs. Site is now a honypot.
Maybe someone posted something (((they))) don't want you to see. (((They))) took down the site, threatened Putt, Putt goes silent/hides, track down Atko, Atko cooperates and takes down post, (((they))) track down OP of said post, site allowed to come back online. Putt still in hiding, or dead from not cooperating. Atko threatened to not say anything.
All are possible.

Based on the best evidence available at this time, it appears fairly safe to say there was an issue.

All excellent points, in an age where much is not what it seems, some transparency and frank honest discussion with some proofs would go a very long way to building a strong loyal user base. And possible ad revenue... because money issues...
