common core is a plan by globalists to dumb down your kids

White kids. White boys specifically.

Niggers are just as slow with this shit as regular math. But this ass-backwards garbage just makes white kids as slow as the black kids because they have to parse the convoluted language in the problems back into non-faggot speak before dealing with the (for them) simple number work.

Same way they boosted girl's performance through the 70s and 80s. They hamstrung the boy's learning style on purpose.

This.

Doing math the way people have been doing it for thousands of years, Asians and whites excel at. They know niggers aren't on par, so the only way to get them on par with white people is to fuck everyone up.

I showed my kids how to do it the right way. Their teachers were on board with that too, but they still had to teach this convoluted method.

Well, my son's first grade teacher wasn't on board with it, and he got everything wrong in that class.

Coed schooling was a mistake, for many reasons. We need to return to girl's schools and boy's schools.

And boys should never be taught by women. Can't expect them to grow up to be men like that.

A nigger would get half a point for attempting the problem white boy using logic and confidence to stand up to a flawed problem and gets no credit.

I am willing to teach your boys that they're really girls, and your girls that they're really boys, goy. I'm sure we can get the state to provide this wonderful endeavor at no cost to you.

Now more than ever the education system is designed to destroy white peoples ability to compete. Use it if you must but never respect it. And know what younare looking at when you see a black doctor or a jew psychologist with 4 degrees leering at you with a gross sense of self-importance- they are products of a system, and deserve none of what they have.

This is how people who are adept at math actually do complicated things in their heads.

You break the problem down into many simple operations that are easy for the human brain to handle. We're particularly good at dealing with 10s, because the 0s can essentially be ignored. So you try to reshape the problem to make it easier. There will be more steps, but all the steps combined are still easier for the brain to handle than the original problem.

   8 + 5
   8 + (2 + 3)
(8 + 2) + 3
  10 + 3

 10
+ 3
---
 13 (3 just replaced the 0)

It looks silly when you write it out, especially on such a simple example, but the brain can actually do these transformations extremely efficiently. Move 2 from 5 to 8 >> 10, replace 0 with 3 >> 13. Happens in fractions of a second when it's a habit.

It becomes more apparent when you apply tricks like this one to more complex problems:

Can you calculate 13 times 17 in your head?

13 * 17 = ???
-------------------
13 + 7 = 20
 v------------^
20 * 10 = 200
 3 * 7 = 21
--------------vvv--
13 * 17 = 221

(works for multiplying any two numbers between 11 and 19)

Edit: To be clear, Common Core is still shit. Because it doesn't explain this properly and forces people to write this out, which defeats the purpose entirely. You're supposed to do it in your head. Being forced to write it will just confuse and annoy, and leave kids with the impression that this is horribly inefficient and tedious... which likely means they will avoid doing it in their head too.

This is how people who are adept at math actually do complicated things in their heads.

Common core completely fails to capture the idiosyncrasies of how people do math in their head and unduly endorses intermediate results as an end as opposed to a means.

Specific to me, and I'm sure many others, is that I don't want to stop and think too hard about an intermediate operation lest I forget the actual goal. Maybe others are different. Teaching should not be opinionated here.

The addition one makes sense. The multiplication is like voodoo. Can you explain it better? This is what I do in my head for multiplication.

13 * 17 = ?

(10 * 17) + 3 * 17 = ?

170 + 3 * 17 = ?

170 + (3 * 10) + (3 * 7) = ?

170 + 30 + 21 = 221

The question in OP's example is also badly worded. A real maths teacher would never have written it this way, but primary school teachers typically are bad at, and scared of, maths.

This guy gets it ^

This was a source of frustration for me in school, I would do this sort of stuff in my head but when teachers would complain that I didn’t show my work I just wouldn’t know how.

And the whole exercise felt relatively pointless given calculators and even computers were becoming more commonplace.

I can kinda see what they are trying to do with the CC approach, but it’s the same problem with all statist endeavors.

Learning is not a one size fits all thing and government mandating a single solution for everyone will lead to terrible results for at least some people.

Make 10s to do addition in your head.

What is 7 + 9?

9 + 1 = 10
7 - 1 = 6

10 + 6 = 16

Yes but the question was how to make 10 with 8+5, nigger

The proper mathmatical answer is to call the system, the teacher and anyone else who argues that the question is anything other than "you cant" a nigger because even the special ed students at my highschool knew what 8+5 was and it sure as fuck isnt 10

It looks a heck of a whole lot like occult numerology to me. Luciferians are trying to teach their tard-math-magic to the masses. Why can't they just eat poop and do math wrong in secret like they have for thousands of years? Now they have to push this retarded shit on our kids?

Common core was literally designed because white kids were doing better than niglet when they did maths where 2+2 equaled 4 like it's supposed to and not 22 so they needed to be brought down to the same level.

In what retarded way is this supposed to be easier than just starting with 8 and counting up 5 more numbers?

1

[–] NewWorld 1 points 12 points (+13|-1) ago

Some people naturally convert larger numbers to make them easier to add. If I wanted to add 489 and 213, I might just mentally change the equation to 490 + 210 - 1 + 3 = 700 + 2 = 702 This way, there is no number 'carrying.' But not everyone finds this method to be easier and it is completely unnecessary for written math (or your cellphone calculator). There is no use teaching this method to students unless they are able to comfortably rearrange math problems first. By the handwriting, the student appears to be too young to have learned that mathematical concept. Instead of addressing the fact that the question was poorly worded, the teacher belittles the student instead. It would have made more sense to ask students to convert addition problems to 'tens.' 3 + 8 + 4 + 6 = 1 + 10 + 10 = 21 but also have them go through the standard way 3 + 8 = 11 + 4 = 15 + 6 = 21 That way the student can later choose the most comfortable method. Oh wait, that's too logical for public school.

Teaching it to kids is great, forcing them to use it is the problem.
