What sucks is there are women who are against this. My fiance is completely against the idea of woman's rights.

Should be posted in r/TraditionalWives

Seriously. Men were supposed to work, women were supposed to hold down the fort. It's been that way for so long it's literally ingrained in our DNA.

Men were supposed to work, women were supposed to hold down the fort.

Only women of a certain class. Working class women have always worked - in mines, factories, out in the fields, domestic servants, as shopgirls, seamstresses, and so on. Long hours, little pay, monotonous and tiring. You know, crap work. And there they were stuck for life. Only middle and upper class women were able to sit at home on the couch, looking decorative and useless.

Other goats have mentioned the suffragettes and their disdain for their sisters of the working class and that hasn't changed. Women's "right" to work has only focused on them entering what was traditionally male roles, whether they were capable of it or not. (excluding crappy male jobs such as garbage collection.)

Feminists didn't, and do not now, give a flying fuck about working class women. (Take a note of how many former working class towns have been taken over by migrants.) Just another reason why I hate my own sex. They fuck up everyone's lives.

Pardon my language.

Exactly. Men work and women make their home lives comfortable and lovely.

Two problems here. First, baby bombers haven't saved for retirement. They were caught between the traditional pension plans of yore and the 401(k). They simply didn't save.

Second, they are holding jobs younger people with families need to survive, so the better paying jobs aren't opening up.

Either way the younger generations are paying for them.

This is an understated issue. The boomers are clogging up the workforce because they either can't or won't retire. I can't find an optimistic way to look at this issue, and I think it may be at the heart of many of our economic issues. To have a house and 3 kids today without subsidy from the government or your family, you pretty much have to be in the 1%.

Exactly. It's a compounding issue. They are taking the roles gen x needs to progress, and they are saturating the workforce, which brings down the salaries for everyone.

So, to be clear: You're saying employers are simply keeping on high paid boomers while less expensive, equally qualified gen Xers sit unemployed? Can you think of any other reason they might be preferring boomers? If not, you are unironically proving the real reason. Think about it.

In the US, an employer cannot fire someone just because of their age. Some employers may want to fire older employees, but are fearful of being hit with an age discrimination lawsuit.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (29 U.S.C. § 621 to 29 U.S.C. § 634) is a US labor law that forbids employment discrimination against anyone at least 40 years of age in the United States (see 29 U.S.C. § 631).

Can you explain? What I'm seeing is they are being forced to retire by the company, and I'm sure it is for your above mentioned reason of higher pay. But you allude to something else. What am I missing?

Men and women are meant to support each other. If you know any sweet old couples, you see this.

Millions of women forced to work until they drop | Daily Mail Online

'The surge means the number of both men and women working past 50 has passed ten million for the first time. '

'Twenty years ago the equivalent figure for those aged 50 to 64 was just 2.4million. '

'At the same time, the number of women aged 50 or over in work has risen by 1.2million, or 34 per cent, to 4.7million. '

'The number of women working in their 50s and 60s has hit a record high. '

'Pension experts last night warned that many older employees – especially women – felt they had no choice but to soldier on. '
