kek.gg rocks. Open source too, so if there is a feature you want you can req or write it yourself!

Got a link to the source code?

I second the request for source code. Can't find it anywhere. Does it run something that goes by another name?

I could look at implementing album support if I had something to work with.

If there is a link to the source code, I may know someone who might be willing to setup a duplicate.

Both imgoat and kek.gg desperately need Android apps. Would make posting from mobile much smoother.

You're definitely not wrong. I've only really ever used kek.gg and when I have it's always been on mobile. While it's a bit more cumbersome than an app would likely be, I've fortunately never had any issues using the site while on mobile.

Both sites are decently optimized for mobile; there's really no need to make an app. The only thing that I can see as a benefit, would be the ability to click on a picture, hit "Share with..." and select either, to have the pic auto-uploaded. But even that is just saving you, like, three steps.

For the new peeps. I downvoat every post that is from Imgur. I make a comment before I do. Don't feel special or anything when it happens. Don't need any more butthurt people.

This goes for posts from known propaganda sites as well.

You do realize that Imgur worked in coordnation with Reddit to destory our first indepenedant hosting service slimgur.com. After that they tried to go after Voat's host in the same manner by uploading kiddy pron.

That is why we don't like people using it on this site. Imgur is run by pedo's mate. If people think Voat is a honey pot then these guys are the beekeepers.

Also, unlike other hosts imgur requires JavaScript for some of their media, probably so they can track you and sell you out better.

They're just as censor-happy as reddit, and there is a lot of overlap in the people that work on them— so you're basically holding your mouth open under the same asshole; the only difference is in the colour of shit that comes out. And never forget: https://imgoat.com/uploads/2ef524fbf3/96042.jpg

Over in FPH they don't often see the type of things the rest of Voat knows. Many of them bee-line directly to FPH and never view anything else here.

I can't tell you how many times people casually link images directly from their Google Drive account. It usually shows their real name, e-mail address, and other screen names. I'm a nice guy so I'll warn them to not use Google Drive, but it hasn't caught on really.

It really is. I can say that of those who were foolish enough to use Google Drive links I was able to discover who they are with 99% certainty of being correct. None of them were fat, which was surprising. I always thought they were all fat asses LARPing as skinny fit people.

Your message is sound but until these alternatives stay up for over a year we'll continue to see graveyards of subs. Remember Slimgur/Veuwer etc?

I lost so much shit on sli... Really no alternative to a hard drive if you want it saved.

You can use the more stable online lockers to keep personal backups, in case your own HDDs fail. MediaFire, Mega.nz, Dropbox, etc. Just don't share links from there unless you made the account using all fake info and never access it without a VPN.

My idea behind it isn't necessarily the longevity of the the sites but the will to use other alternatives. Eventually a bigger more powerful one will come into play until it turns in to another imgur.

Longevity is a concern but information survives due to individuals not the corporations that hold it.

That's what makes me a fan if IPFS. There's lots of potential, there.

@Skeeterdo, can you suggest an image-hosting site that handles albums - which you can edit, add captions, etc? Since Slimgr went down, I don't know what to use.

https://imgtc.com/ supports albums. No support for editing, but you can do that pretty easily with gimp or your editor of choice.

Off the top of my head I don't know. I don't use albums, if I need multiple images I just stich them together much like 4chaners do.

I'd suggest starting a post asking around.

@shadow332 @Skeeterdo @absurdlyobfuscated

I used to use imgtc exclusively up until @jmtullock and @jmtullock2 (creator of imgtc) abandoned voat, and stopped responding to PMs and posts/comments in /v/imgtc. This was the same pattern that slimgur and slimg exhibited before failing. I wasn't big on kek.gg at first, but I came to realize that it is the most reliable and uncensored image host. At least for now.
