Weird stuff was happening about a year after digg committed suicide. IRC became flooded with bots or tons of idle users and ISPs dropped Usenet at the same time. Herding everyone onto sites like facistbook or Reddit was definitely part of the plan.

I can see the need for some kind of "re-orientation process", or perhaps a "winnowing" to filter out the weak and overly sensitive reddit types. Even coming to voat in the first place is a self-selection process that acts like a first-pass filter, but we don't want too many of the sjw types to slip though. Some do get a bit carried away with the testing process.

At the same time, turning away all but the hardcore stifles voat. A moderate percentage of the less-than-rightwing-extremists might be good for voat, in the sense that they wouldn't overwhelm voat culture, but would bring new blood and keep voat from becoming too insular. They could be looked at as 80% lowers, here for the final drilling and machining.

Given that I'm only 2 days older than you, it was probably the same event that sent us over here. I had active accounts over there for 11 years, and saw what happened with all the waves of schoolkid noobs, then the digg invasion, once they crashed. Reddits "welcome all" attitude resulted, at least in part, in the reddit you see today.

They are already here. That was Goldf1sh's sub IIRC. It was the last sane and serious sub on reddit.

I do not remember correctly. But they did use a couple of his tools.
