Alec's impersonation of Trump was a rip-off of John Di Domenico's Trump.
Almost everyone that is impersonating Trump is actually doing John Di Domenico's interpretation of Trump, since he captured and informed others on the mannerisms that make the character.
Frank Caliendo's interpretations of celebrities are so well known, that almost everyone that is attempting to impersonate one of the celebrities that Frank has deconstructed, are actually copying Frank's work.
It's like an inside joke between friends. The reference almost immediately stops being about the actual reference, and becomes a reference of the reference, which is what makes and exaggerates the humorous aspect of whatever the subject is.
