Alcoholic here. This goat ain't lying. I have done years in prison for drunk driving. Call a friend, call a cab.

Seconded. While I was never caught while in the military being the designated drunk driver, I know at least three dozen that were, and three have committed suicide. I still love my drinks, but do not DDD anymore after losing several friends. It is not worth it.

Honest answer? It's easier to face the pain and a life full of fuck-ups. Plus, I like getting drunk.

OPGoat is underestimating the costs for most people. It's pretty unusual to get out for under 10k if you have a job of any kind.

My DUI was caught by a cop that was on a task force that does nothing but look for DUI. They literally have no other purpose. My attorney was emphatic in emphasizing that the setup is a massive money maker and the last thing the DAs and judges want is for DUI arrests to actually be reduced. They only lose if DUIs go down, therefore it's as OP suggests down to you as an individual to not give these people their cushy paying jobs.

I've had one D.U.I. One of the classes I had to attend made us add up the total cost including fines, lawyer, and missed work. I shit you not, $11,237. Call a fucking cab.

Was at a casino last night and was chatting with a dealer. There were a few drunks around (standard Friday night I guess) and one of them when getting kicked out loudly said, "what, are you going to call the cops on me now?" The security guard calmly said, "nope, I'm just going to walk outside the building with you and let you do whatever you want after that." The dealer told me that any busy nights there are quite a few plainclothed officers who will watch people they suspect are over the limit leave and then call the on duty officers nearby who will immediately pull them over.

Drunk here. I don't drive. If you want to fuck up your body, that is your business but don't put others in danger. If you are a drunk like me, do the right thing and learn to walk to places. There are buses if you want to go far away dammit.

Every bartender I've ever known has had one or several DUIs. You know what I'm talking about @bourbonexpert.

I just drink at home. No harm there.

Weird. None of the bartenders I know have [that I am aware of... I bet one of them has, just does not admit to it].

If I drank, I'd just drink at home. But as it is now, I don't make it to midnight anymore unless I force myself to stay awake.
