One issue I have with this perspective is that if they are conscientious and introspective enough to actually be putting forth this idea, they would already be better breeding stock than most of the people who do breed..

It would be nice to have government subsidies for the smart and productive to have big families.

I have entertained another idea about earning your right to reproduce. In this "Universal Basic Income" sense it wouldn't be prohibited to have a kid, but it will not give you any additional benefit and will actually penalize you in some way as now your offspring need to be provided basic services too. It might be that people who don't have children get to live in "Adult" Housing or something that can be different than Family Housing with more individual appliances etc.. [Of course you can always go out and earn yourself a nice private bathroom for Dad, but the Government will not provide it to you]

I was thinking, to earn the "right" to participate fully while also having children, you need to complete some civic duty or some training or something related to the common good. "Earn your citizenship" like they do in Israel and Starship Troopers.

Yeah but they'd be more dumb liberals trying to take my guns and give everyone healthcare.

Instead of.. The fatherless masses of welfare recipients who are the main reason you need a gun to begin with?

I used to make a similar comment about abortion: It should be legal because women who want to do that shouldn't reproduce anyway.

It was intended more as humor than an actual expression of my beliefs.

When abortion was legalized about 16 years later the crime rates dropped like a fucking rock.

If nothing else...I understand the moral argument against those who are anti-abortion. I myself am BARELY pro choice. I got no problem with folks anti-abortion its completely understandable on moral philosophical grounds Not even religious grounds. You don't have to be religious to think aboriton is morally wrong.

But if you think free birth control or giving teens access to birth control is a bad idea. You're bad at math. And you don't know what conception is.

Actually, for me the argument gets most tedious around rape. I could never condemn a woman who aborted her rapist's child. But I kinda actually could think or say some very condemning things about a woman who bears and nurtures the child of a rapist into the world. Not exactly making the world a better place, is she?

All academic analysis of personal ethics to me, until we get into the complicated situation of women who breed evil. Her body, her choice. She chose to put rape-spawn into the world? Um, well ...

The problem is irresponsibility in sex. A culture with promotes promiscuity despite it being shown to have deeply negative psychological impacts. Sexual availability lauded as some kind of liberation when in fact self-control is the true liberation.

I can see that perspective though.

I'm on board with the poor being given free birth control. It helps them and it helps taxpayers.

both parents should be able to abort responsibility up to x week.

Agreed. Her body, her choice. His financial responsibility for her choice? A separate question.

I'm not having kids because I'm anti-social, suffer from depression, have no understanding of the point of life (besides procreation and contributing to a high-functioning society--but the question still remains: what is the point?), I'm an alcoholic, I hate most people, and I don't trust most people. I do love kids, though (not in the sick way), and I was briefly a step-father and loved it...and honestly, when I actually am forced to interact with people through work or having to go to the ER or something, I really love it and I'm a super-friendly person. But in the end, I just don't feel good enough about myself or my outlook on life to bring a child into this world. Good luck to all of you who do, however, and God help the future generations get through this life.

Have you read Thomas Ligotti's 'Conspiracy Against the Human Race'? There is NO point. Some of us don't handle that fact very well, LOL! ♡

Aside from that, I wanted to let you know that you've made a thoughtful, compassionate, ethical choice. Should you ever decide you want to try and expand your family, there are tens of thousands of unwanted kids sitting in foster care, orphanages, and on the streets. The idea of making more while so many suffer and die needlessly is absolute proof of our insanity and helplessness as a species.

Too bad they reproduce by brainwashing, not by sex.

The whole world's population would fit liveably inside Texas (in single-family homes). There is no overpopulation problem.

Yet they bitch about the plight of the 3rd world and want funds/aid sent there. All that is going to do is increase the 3rd world population, those fuckers breed like rabbits.

3rd world countries bred like rabbits and 1st world countries go extinct from a lack of breeding. Ironic.

First world countries are only going to go extinct if they let the 3rd world in. I've heard lots of talk about how declining populations are a bad thing, guess what, we have automation to fill the gap. The entire argument of "We need these 3rd worlders to fill the jobs" is utter bullshit, we're creating robots to fill those jobs. "But muh population decline!" Fuck off, the first world has enough people.
