How about how FDR intentionally pulled us into WW2 by baiting the axis powers to attack us. We embargoed Japan - a country that had done nothing against us - and sold weapons to Germany's enemies. We put ourselves directly in their path in such a way that there was no feasible way for them to win the war without attacking us. FDR was responsible for the deaths of nearly half a million Americans who died fighting countries that never would have bothered us if we didn't force them to attack us, just so he could have a convenient way to deal with all the unemployed people the depression created.

It's a bit extreme on this subject, but articles on antiwar.com might reference some specific books which are useful for these arguments.

OTOH, if the OP's looking for a more-mechanistic argument, a tour from the Immigration Act of 1965 through identity politics might demonstrate how people are being algorithmically sorted to function in an increasingly-command economy. But be careful: the topic sounds like an opening to a critique of capitalism, so don't fall for it.
