It needs to go back to lines, government cheese, and surplus crops. And yes, for the poorest of the poor.

i'd be fine with it being open to anyone (get rid of the bureaucracy and social workers required to navigate it), and have it just be things like you are saying, surplus ag, grains, dried beans, government peanut butter, etc. It would sustain anyone just fine, and would be balanced as well. There are just so many positives about this i don't know where to start.

There has to be a cost to the state or electronically processing these transactions....beyond the purchases of course. I wonder what that cost is to make welfare ultra convenient. One would probably argue less than the centers required in the distribution of food.
