Oh my goodness.

That is the most tragic thing I've read in a long time. How much history did they just destroy in the name of "safety"? This is exactly the sort of despicable erasure of history that the Muslims do on jihad.

They literally destroyed this mans life's work. He'd been doing it for 4 decades. Not to mention. THIS GUY IS A FULL TIME FIREFIGHTER. HE RISKS HIS LIFE ALL THE FUCKING TIME BUT HE'S DANGEROUS FOR OWNING AMMUNITION. The court case just recently concluded and the judge did not send him to jail for it. One of the prosecutors regretted that he wasn't sent to jail because the record of the items was not adequate of what had been recovered. MAYBE YOU SHOULDNT HAVE BLOWN IT UP THEN. Why couldn't they just confiscate and put it in a museum because I seriously doubt he had any "live" bombs. But we'll never be able to confirm since it was conveniently blown up.

You don't have a right to property in the U.K.

Hell, we barely do in the U.S.

Leave it to government to destroy something historic and irreplaceable. Chalk it right up there with Buddhist temples in China, the Kowloon Walled City, and our confederate monuments.

Why do you think of Kowloon as important?

Wasn't it just a slum as envisioned in Judge Dredd?

Incoming wall of text. Sorry about that.

Although a Jude Dredd city in real life would be pretty bleak, the walled city was actually just the opposite. It was the only legitimate instance of anarchy in Human history. It was born of a uniquely bizarre legal agreement between Britain and China that resulted in both countries owning the small plot of land it rested in, but neither of them could enforce their laws there. It did start out as a slum, but over time, it morphed into a unique community of individuals that sought the anarchy it provided. There were no central planners directing its organization, nor were any architects responsible for its construction. Everything formed spontaneously over time entirely through Human interaction. Sort of the Asian version of the wild west, if you will. People from all over moved into its small space, not just peasants, but doctors and businessmen. Why would they do that when they could afford a nice apartment in the high rises of the growing city? Some people aren't content with the sterile bland tastelessness of the modern world. Some people want grit and rugged individualism. Is that wrong? I would say no. At the time of the city's demolition, most of the residents protested its destruction. To this day, you will not find one person who lived there disparage it in any way. You could say the powers that be wanted to destroy because they didn't want the people to see that a peaceful sustainable anarchy was possible, but in reality, it was probably British snobbery that did it in. They couldn't stand the sight of it amongst the sleek steel buildings of the advancing economy. Men of power, short-sighted and foolish as they are, never consider the consequences of their actions. I could go on about this forever. It's history is very unique, in that there was never any place like it in the past and there probably won't be anything like it ever again. That's what makes its destruction such a tragedy. if you have any more questions though, by all means, ask away.
