I used to work at a gas station in the "ghetto" of my city. Nig nogs did that shit daily. There was a fucking grocery store within a 10 min walk, but they came to the mini mart to buy candy and soda instead of actual food. Still pisses me off to this day when people think that ebt is a good thing.

This is why I have trouble believing in the whole "food desert" shit. Yes, some places probably need a grocery store so people can pick up food to cook. But if grocery chains thought they could make money they would already be there. They know folks are still going to hit the 7-Eleven and Popeye's instead of picking up something from a real store. And now you have cities outlawing certain types of businesses in poor areas to force them to go to the store. Guess what? Those folks still don't buy from the store, they ride somewhere else to get their shit.

That makes no sense. Grocery stores with nutritious foods like vegetables also have chips, soda, candy, etc.

So you're saying it's worth fucking over the people that actually need it for the sake of stopping some freeloading niggers? Because in my experience I see a hell of a lot of old ladies buying cans of soup for every nigger buying a pack of Starburst.

Sugar is a helluva drug. The junk food companies are legal cartels.

I was listening to a podcast about the history of trade and the guy called sugar "the heroin of foodstuffs". Apparently once a society gets a taste of sugar their consumption* always* increases.

Mri scans show that sugar and cocaine affect the brain in the same way.

[–] Skyrock 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

It absolutely is. Look at Greenland, which several decades ago had a traditional self-sufficient lifestyle based on hunting and fishing, and how the introduction of sugar has wrecked the health of everyone and led to epidemic diabetes. Crack and crystal meth wouldn't have done much worse.

I've tried cocaine, heroin, and sugar. Sugar is still the only one I can't easily quit/give up consumption at will.

Many, many years ago my wife and I had a baby. She was working a full time, evening (low paying) factory job and I was going to college in the mornings. We didn't have any family or friends to help us out as we had moved to some run down apartments to be close to the college so I could walk to school and save some money. I had no intention of dumping my newborn off on some stranger for babysitting, not that I would have had the money anyway. Our baby had bad colic so many nights I would be up with the baby until 1am and then in the morning off to my 7am class.

I run into a couple of idiot friends from high school that had just been fired from Taco Bell. These childless single guys smoked their expensive cigarettes as I explained how tight money was for me. They told me that I should get food stamps like they did. I had never applied for any sort of assistance before, so I asked them where to go to apply. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask and considering how broke we were, any help would have been greatly appreciated. So I head to the place, sit in a little waiting room with a few hundred Hispanics and wait about 2 hours to speak with someone. The lady sits me down, looks over my paperwork for about 1 minute and says, "you're wife works full time?" I say, "yes". She says, "you are ineligible for any sort of assistance, have a good day."

Always good to know that these programs are put into place for the truly needy trying to improve their lives.

And the shit is a trap, get on and you cant get a job or lose what you have. Its set up to keep people on it.

[–] obvious-throwaway- 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

If it's actual intention wasn't to trap people on it, you'd think one of the requirements would be that you are actively working towards no longer needing it. Such as, I don't know... maybe attending college.

If you're at or below the poverty line, even a bit higher than the poverty line, you should still qualify for assistance no matter if you work full time or not.

My exe had to go out on disability with our first kid (early labor at a few months and we wanted to keep the kid so...). She drew the max time for disability so had no income for a few months before and after birth. She went in and the woman said she couldn't do anything since we were still living together. My ex told her, "Oh no, he left me." Right there, with no proof since we were still married and living together with no plans to stop, they gave her WIC. One month after she came back to work I told her to go down and stop it, but they were going to leave her on it for a lot longer.

I took this picture the other day. Really got a kick out of the fact that monster makes it part of their signage that it is EBT approved. I wish there was push-back for that shit, but i don't drink it anyway, so can't really boycott it.

They should try to end ebt, but if they aren't going to do that they at least need to change it to be more like wic, where you can only buy some items. Even if they got rid of junk food, i would also like to see anything that is too expensive for me to eat regularly off of the menu as well. Ideally it would be "okay, here is your oil, dried beans, dried rice, and milk, have a good week, see you next sunday"; people shouldn't want to be on EBT.

If you pay taxes, you are buying them Monster because the state has determined that they are too poor to provide basic nutrition, and that Monster constitutes same.

I should probably switch to drinking tea anyway, healthier for me.

Make sure it doesnt screw you. Its a trap used to keep people under employed so they can keep getting it.

But I personally wont mind paying a few cents in taxes for you to make your mom and dad some nice meals w it. The system is broken, but I dont mind those who use it and dont abuse it.

[–] SquarebobSpongebutt 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

That is the part people don't get. I am not against my taxes being used to help those in need. I am against it being used to keep people poor (or allow them to easily abuse it) and then buy votes using my tax money.

I think that is why so many libertarians hopped on the Basic Income bandwagon. They see no way to get rid of welfare so we might as well untie it from poverty so that it can't be used to keep people down and buy their votes. Too bad that it would morph right back into means testing in no time.

I spend 70 dollars a week on food for just myself. All whole food (with some count Chocula and Frankenberry for my post work out carbs). Feels good. I could make that 500 ebt go a long way.
