Not really enough information but if she is pretty healthy and young she can get OK health insurance for 200-300 a month as an individual. Group Health Insurance is the biggest scam I have ever seen, they charge your employer three or four times what it would cost for an average adult to get health insurance privately just because Obamacare forces them to get group health insurance since they have to provide coverage to all their employees and that is the only way they can (can't be refused in a group plan due to poor health). Your employer probably pays 600 or 700 for your insurance alone and would have to pay about that much extra to add your wife, so it stands to reason that they don't want to eat all of that cost when other employees who don't have wives don't have that problem.
Looking at one of your replies it seems like either what you consider OK health insurance is probably very different than what I consider OK health insurance or your wife has some health aspect that is jacking up the costs. Last year both me and my wife checked out individual health insurance because both of our employers went with higher deductible plans and neither one of us were anywhere near $300 for a plan that was similar to what we had through our employer.
