They are not pants on head insane. They've been fed a manufactured worldview through entertainment that conflicts with reality. Couple this with feminism removing the mother from the home and children growing up more isolated than previous generations without parental figures. You've got a sizeable amount of people, large enough to be a loud voice, that learned "how the world works" from agenda driven fiction instead of reality. The Nice Guy, the Powerful Intelligent Fulfilled Career Woman, The Idiot Jock, The Le Random Peter Pan, and all the Tokens/Anti-Tokens replace real people. Then the boys grow up and try to be the the nice guy and it doesn't work. The jocks grow up and disregard education and it doesn't work. The above average intelligent girls grow up and try to be fulfilled by a high profile career and it doesn't work. The eternal youth fails to grow up and shirks the burden of responsibility and that doesn't work. Their very fundamental understanding of "how things should work" based on what they internalized at a younger stage of development is fantasy. The insanity is the clash of reality with their fantasy and their willingness to defend their fantasy at all costs.

I actually am. I'm expecting it to be shit as it will be my first effort. I'm purposefully trying not to write a preachy dystopian story in the style of the ideas above. Viewing the world through that lens was an obsession I had for a long time. None of my earlier story attempts had any "life." They were intricate "interesting" worlds with lifeless or ideologically possessed characters cough 1984 and Brave New World cough . I'm challenging myself to write a story that is much more intimate and character driven. Still set in a dystopia but the world barely gets any focus compared to the characters. Maybe I could write a classic dystopian future prognostication novel sometime later on down the line, but I need to prove to myself that I can write evocative characters before I feel comfortable making the setting the main character.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to document the journey of the formation, challenge, and dissolution of a propaganda instilled fantasy and turn that into a compelling character arc. However, that is not my personal most meaningful arc of development. It is more like a part of the whole. My own narrative was an obsessive search for meaning not a disillusionment with the failed products of my belief system. I feel compelled to walk through the trials and triumphs of my own story through fictional abstraction first before branching out and trying to emulate the struggles of imagined others.

Then they want communism so daddy government will take care of all their needs. And that never works (but it totally will if we do it right this time!)

And tantrums when their interpretation of reality is challenged.

Food tastes different than last time you ate it? Hissy fit.

Does anyone else think KFC tastes different? I think all those years of hot, spicy food has altered my taste buds.

Of course they're pants on head insane. THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN THE CONCEPT OF OBJECTIVE TRUTH ITSELF. They think that sexual intercourse can occur between two of the same sex. They think that fucking children is acceptable. All liberals are proven to have PHYSICAL BRAIN DAMAGE.
