I started getting into hexcode with my youngest. He's autistic, but showing him this shit, he caught on immediately.

My older one, straight A student(I kind of blame this on lowering the standard), but he could barely grasp the concept. I push him hard mentally because I don't think he's learning enough at school.

Our state is a common core holdout, but they still teach to the common core standards because if a student transfered to a different state, they'd be fucked.

I dunno, 80% of the shit they're learning in school, they tell me that I taught them the "right" way before they learnt it in school.

I make an emphasis towards Texas history, because this is the land they were born from, and they should know the history of the men who gave their lives for their rights to live on this land. I'm not even from Texas, but they were born here.

well I'll be damned, a parent who's actually taking the education of their own kids into their own hands, I'd never thought I'd see that again in my life. Congrats on being so self determined and taking your responsibility so serious :)

What's funny is that at their age, I was living in a majority black city, but I was accepted into a city funded school for the "gifted and talented" = nearly all white school in a black city. So, for their age level, they're both way behind where I was for their age.

Education standards are being lowered across the nation. My kids understand square roots and the concepts of imaginary numbers, but the schools are no where near even touching on these subjects. They don't even offer advanced placement until grade 7.

It just feels like they're holding kids back from reaching their full potential because of the "minority" kids who can't grasp the material.

That is the definition of a parent. I refuse to associate with people with stupid kids.
