Instead of asking why your friend like opiates enough to keep doing them?. The majority of people, including myself, simply don't like opiates and opioids and will only do them when we are in screaming pain, for which they aren't really much of an alternative. And yes, have done heroin (had a severe neck injury and no doctor) and don't like that either. Quit easily after two weeks when the spasms slacked off and was just happy not to be constipated anymore. What makes addicts different?
Opioid epidemic means maybe you aren't exactly the 'majority' you think you are. You may have heard of it. It's literally one of the largest issues healthcare providers and regulators are dealing these days.
