Made an account, finally. Once I can get off my ass and tune this account, then I'll finish off the transition.

The transition will be slow, but at least we're part of the solution and not just someone who complains about Reddit changes without exercising their right to voat.

I'm just happy there's an alternative if things get too bad over on Reddit.

Voat stayed up long enough for me to make an account, sick of the constant fighting on reddit. There's always something happening that gets annoying.

Voat's new censorship

Downvoating is what reddit uses to silence dissenting views.

People don't typically upvoat, even if they like something. They will just look at it.

But when people get butthurt or see things they don't like they DO DOWNVOAT. You're assuming that people use both buttons the same way.

Voating is a censorship tool because it doesn't depend on rational argumentation. It only depends on CONSENSUS. That's why SRS use downvoat brigades because they know it's only purpose is to censor content they don't want seen by others.

Look, our entire political system should make it more practical. We don't let everyone vote in elections for a good reason: we know that retards are the majority of people. You want Bill Gate's educated vote negated by some homeless retard on the street? That's EXACTLY what democratic voting does. That's exactly what the movie Idiocracy was about. When you give everyone an equal say, you negate the point of education. You negate the point of rational argumentation. If a baby can negate the vote of an adult, then you don't really need to learn how to think. All you need to do is make people agree with you. And bribery is the fastest way to agreement.

Since people tend to downvoat when they're butthurt and engaged in censorship, the best way to combat censorship would be to only allow UPVOATING since people will actively have to champion what they believe rather than focus on what they want to complain about and censor. You can look at upvoating as positive censorship since it at least puts the burden on the upvoater to be accountable to their views and say what they prefer instead of simply complaining about what they don't want.

Stating what you want to happen takes EDUCATION AND EFFORT. Complaining about what you don't want just requires the ability to be butthurt.

I'd rather err on the side of positive censorship if we have to censor at all. We already know how negative censorship turns out: it becomes reddit.

At least positive censorship requires EFFORT that keyboard warriors aren't willing to invest. So if we want to make this place different from reddit, we should ONLY have an upvoat button.

Don't let this place become reddit 2.0

Been here ten minutes and already seen this big ass copy paste twice. Bribe me to support you. You say no downvoat button because people abuse it, but there is absolutely nothing in this world that cannot be used in a way it wasn't intended. Your views are more toxic than what you are trying to fight. You can't just remove everything because some idiots use it in a harmful or detrimental way.

Voat is better than reddit because not just anyone can create an account and downvoat, you first need 100 upvoats.

I just downvoated you.

Because I don't want this place turned into Facebook. I'll just copy paste my old post:

This 'positivity' will be entirely artificial.

Upvotes and downvotes should be always balanced, so I can clearly see true score for posts/comments.

Your idea is like making everyone fake-smiling most of the time...

"When you give everyone an equal say, you negate the point of education. You negate the point of rational argumentation."

Education and wealth go hand in hand. When only the wealthy have power, they fuck everyone else over. You should know this from the American colonies, as well as many other societies, where only the upper class's greed destroyed opportunity for everyone else. The fact that you don't shows you are the uneducated retard here.

"People don't typically upvoat, even if they like something. They will just look at it."

I call bullshit. Both on Reddit and on Voat, I have always seen way more upvoting even when I look all the way to the bottom of a thread. Also very few accounts have negative karma. You get downvoated because you're a moron.

"Downvoating is what reddit uses to silence dissenting views."

If downvoting is censorship, then so is reading good books instead of bad ones. You must really hate Rotten Tomatoes.

Me. I was aware of voat couple of weeks ago (thanks to the fattening) but had no inclination to switch until the Victoria situation. The culture of reddit seemed under attack, the rest of the weekend didn't feel right.

Voat didn't load for me until right now, I've been trying for the last couple of days, but already it feels good to be here. A mix of "oh hey, so that's where home went..." and cautious optimism at a new beginning with a new culture.

So hi everyone!

I made an account a couple weeks ago, but mostly stuck with the other site. I've been lurking over here somewhat but obviously there have been major problems handling the influx of users.

For this site to really work we need to get more content on the frontpage that isn't just about Pao and the other site. Obviously it's going to remain a major topic of discussion for a while and something most new users are interested in when they first arrive, but to get people to stay it can't be the only thing we talk about.

For starters, we need to not have the frontpage covered with self.introductions. The site is growing way to fast for everyone that shows up to introduce themselves individually. We will get to know eachother by the content we create or link and the comments we post. These introductions are drowning out that content. I tried to edit my subscriptions to clear it off, but I don't have any subscriptions yet so I assume it is a default and I'm not sure how to remove it.

Also, there has been discussion at the other site of making July 10th a strike day where people don't visit the other site at all. I don't think that by itself will do anything, but it's a great opportunity for people to check out Voat. We need this site to be up and running and full of content for them to stay.

This site is well designed and the layout is familiar to redditers. The mobile UI is better than theirs in my opinion. All it needs is server capacity and content to win them over.

I don't know. I've been told Voat people are more lovely. So while allowed not a popular pass time. Personally I don't hate fat people. I hate people who push the fat is healthy and hate people who aggress those who call fat unhealthy.

But anyway trying on this positivity, I appreciate people who accept that life and self is not still. It's always in motion. And doing nothing is being left behind. We should always strive to be better.

Seriously. Too many butt-hurt fatties ruined it for us on reddit. But it led me to voat... Such a breath of fresh air. It reminds me of early reddit compared to what reddit has become.

If I were them, who had been enjoying a "pure" community, I would be worried that the rising popularity of voat would attract the same things that reddit eventually attracted, like ads disguised as posts that companies can pay for.

one thing I noticed (came here 22 days ago)

They were building structures different from reddit, but got overwhelmed, so now we have mostly copy-pasted reddit,

They seem to be 'fine' with it, if you know what I mean.

Those links load like the Reddit Enhancement Suite. At least it's built in this time, and you don't have to get a firefox addon for it.

The big draw of Reddit was the fact that the users decided on content - not some administrative staff censoring a bunch of topics/comments. Without that, the page just turns into any other random news aggregate on the Internet that does the same thing. It looks like there are already enough users here - so fuck that other place.
