Does anyone want to guess when they took us off the gold reserve for good? Oh would you look at that in 1971 when the split is starting to occur.

Any thoughts about having silver over gold as a standard?
IIRC, we find more silver every year then gold (closer to population growth), and it is more affordable for the average American to own silver.
If the golden rule holds true (those with the gold make the rules) then why not use silver instead?

Silver has more practical uses and will be more rare if not already beyond golds rarity due to the demand from the electrical industry. (finding actual and accurate numbers on gold and silver is pretty tough). I think using gold is about the best it can get, as it is rare enough to hold a market stable and sturdy enough to not need to replace it every x years. Gold also has no real uses besides some random applications here and there.
