To whomever did this, thank you. Let's keep Voat alive!

[–] Drkadrka 0 points 35 points (+35|-0) ago

Did Scott Adams answer the call? I'd like to think that rather than the other, more likely options.

[–] 00ellis 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Or Tucker.

[–] GoogleHatesVoat 1 points 28 points (+29|-1) ago

Reddit did it. They want to ensure no freedom of speech people come back to their safe space.

[–] eagleshigh 0 points 10 points (+10|-0) ago

That'd be hilarious if true. I saw in the article about Voat's financial troubles yesterday that some Jewitter said to donate so da ebil nayzee KayKayKay raysisis don't come back.

[–] Empire_of_the_mind 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

This would be fine

[–] Lemongarb 10 points 16 points (+26|-10) ago

Probably a fat finger accident.

[–] Humanacide 19 points 21 points (+40|-19) ago

No it was not a fat fingered accident you asshole. I try doing something nice and then you asholes say shit like this.

[–] Zoomba 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

No joke. Super generous.

[–] Bill_Murrays_Sandals 1 points 47 points (+48|-1) ago

I hope it is James Woods

[–] MCVoat 0 points 21 points (+21|-0) ago

Oooo piece of candy!

[–] luckylemon 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago

Ha! Just sent a text with an update on voat's status, saying I suspect James Woods is behind this. But maybe that's just me hoping we have a generous badass benefactor.

[–] lmkevin 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Before I read this comment: who could it be?

After: It was probably James Woods.

[–] SirDigbyChikenCaesar 0 points 11 points (+11|-0) ago

Are we memeing James Woods as voat's savior? @Bill_Murrays_Sandals

[–] TheVideodrome 1 points 1 points (+2|-1) ago

Long live the new flesh

[–] Kleyno 1 points 33 points (+34|-1) ago

If it turns out this was Hecho as well...

[–] PeaceSeeker 1 points 16 points (+17|-1) ago

hecho donated $300 just recently. I don't think he has anything to do with this.

[–] antiliberalsociety 2 points 19 points (+21|-2) ago

So he SAYS

[–] Anoxim 1 points 13 points (+14|-1) ago

I donated $65,000. I'm totally not lying.

[–] CrazyInAnInsaneWorld 3 points 7 points (+10|-3) ago

hecho CLAIMS he donated $300 just recently.

FTFY. And, I will note, at least in the thread I saw, there was no evidence he had done so (Such as a screencap of the receipt screen, or an applicable badge). If he did so, then kudos on the little bastard for being productive and helpful, for once, instead of smearing his shit everywhere...but I'mma remain skeptical until I see some proof.

[–] Goldfingers 2 points 29 points (+31|-2) ago

Uh oh, I only meant to donate $10.

[–] i-am-me 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

So your fingers are made of gold after all!

[–] Goldfingers 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Yea, what I touch? Turns to Gold. Or Shit,

it's a crap shoot.

[–] WeekendBaker 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

I guess you can be gold and fat fingered at the same time.

[–] Goldfingers 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

(: Oh well, at least I'm not still sticky fingered.

[–] Crow_T_robocop 0 points 27 points (+27|-0) ago

Probably b the FBI

[–] Its_Just_A_Ride 0 points 17 points (+17|-0) ago

Real talk, the CIA has had their left arm up bitcoins ass since it first broke $140 and shot up to ~$600. Its a very real possibility theres a 3-letter group behind this.

[–] sinjinsmythesback 1 points 18 points (+19|-1) ago

Go on...

Do you mean, NSA CIA FBI XYZ want voat to continue operating? If so why? To keep us all in one place? Or...?

[–] stonetear 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

can confirm.

[–] tapsnapornap 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Can confirm. My dad works at the FBI

[–] MediumBlargh 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Or China. China, for some reason I'm still figuring out, seems to have an interest in keeping Bitcoin stable.

We use.

[–] Professor_de_la_Paz 1 points 18 points (+19|-1) ago

OK, @Puttitout, take the weekend off and go play a round of golf.

[–] Arotaes_Forgehammer 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Yeah @puttitout go have a weekend off. You deserve it.

[–] collegetoker 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

OK, @Puttitout, take the weekend off and go get some hookers and blow

[–] Morbo 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

We'll try not to burn the place down while you're gone, but I can promise nothing.

[–] DonkeyOatey 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

At Andrews.

[–] PeaceSeeker 0 points 11 points (+11|-0) ago

Wait, does this show that an individual source donated this amount?

I know one of the /v/ThePedes mods was saying how collectively this influx of users has donated 10,000+ BTC to Voat. But if it turns out that this same collective payment was actually just a single individual source, then I'm going to find that to be suspicious. It would make me feel that either the /v/ThePedes mods are trying to make it seem as if an individual payment was a mass group payment, or that this influx was orchestrated by someone for some reason in response to Voat's situation.

If this is the angel Putt was talking about, why hide it within a redditfugee invasion?

[–] go1dfish 0 points 18 points (+18|-0) ago

This shows that 5.336322 BTC came in in a single transaction.

That's about $10k right now.

I discussed the bitcoin donations in general here : https://voat.co/v/bitcoin/1869983

But I didn't notice the single whale of a donation.

So yeah, the vast majority of the bitcoin everyone has been talking about came from that single transaction.

Got to love Bitcoin, if someone had done this through a bank it would have required a "Suspicious Activity Report"

[–] PeaceSeeker 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

That's crazy. Thanks for the explanation. I really need to get into bitcoin sometime soon.

[–] Its_Just_A_Ride 0 points 10 points (+10|-0) ago

I assume you mean 10k USD, correct? 10k btc is enough to buy voat and pay a 10 man team to rewrite the site.

if it turns out that this same collective payment was actually just a single individual source, then I'm going to find that to be suspicious.

Agreed. Its very weird timing. Its almost like someone really wants to improve the image of this latest wave of refugees so existing voat users don't reject them.

I think its safe to say putts post about an angel investor, the pede phenomenon, and this donation are all closely linked.

[–] PeaceSeeker 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Yes, I meant 10,000 USD worth of BTC. Thank you.

And I think there are quite a few plausible theories floating around, but until Putt gives us his weekend update I'm going to assume he knows little to nothing about this specific donation.

It could have to do with the refugees, it could be a rich freedom of speech-loving celebrity supporting Voat and plugging BTC all at once. Without Putt's word, (and/or the word of the donor) we can only guess.
