Windows is headed [in] this direction.

Almost all commercial software is headed in this direction. Even if you're not paying for a subscription in cash, you may well be paying for it in your personal data.

This is one reason why I stay the fuck away from things like cloud computing - you don't own the computer, someone else does. And they own the software and data, too. Now this isn't really cloud computing directly, but the cloud is part of the thrust of this (e.g. Windows 10 trying to drag users into a cloud-based OS, which is another "feature" it has).
