When teachers are dumber than dirt we've got a problem.

When teachers who are dumber than dirt get all butthurt because they're shown to be as dumb as dirt, then we've got an even bigger problem.

This is when stupidity turns to malice.

Persuasive evidence for choosing the home-schooling route.

I'm seriously considering home schooling, with extracurricular sports to round-out the social aspect (home schooled kids are weird).

Yeah - when I talk about home-schooling I really just mean away from a state institution (until university at least).

My partner and I are lucky enough to have friends and colleagues who could all teach different academic subjects like chemistry, maths, geography, history and languages as well as the different trades like electrician, plumber or carpenter.

We are also lucky in that we live in the country and this means our kids will get to experience nature first hand. This includes the life, maintenance and death of farm animals as well as how to grow crops the right way so as not to denegrate the land.

Along with all that we have friends who are professional musicians, dancers , cooks and artists so we have most of the other more leftfield vocational bases covered.

So we'd share the responsibility of teaching amongst ourselves and our own. You know what to expect and can be far more secure in the knowledge that our kids will be learning more than in the school system. This would also help with developing the social skills you spoke of.

Though, like you, I think something like a regular team sport is essential for developing healthy social skills and that would be one of the only things I would demand our kids sign up for (unless they came up with something else of equivalent value like organised activity weekends with local kids groups for example).

I mean, weird in itself isn't inherently bad. It's just that all the home-schooled kids I've met have been a little too weird.

This is why homeschooling is illegal in places like Germany: indoctrination is first priority.
