That's why I stay here despite all the "I disagree" downvotes, asshats, and willful ignorance. Freedom of speech is paramount.

Freedom of speech is the only thing voat has over Reddit. And that's all that matters.

Freedom of speech was what attracted everyone to reddit. Now that they've changed their tune, it's surprising to see people still clinging to it.

I couldn't agree more. Often what we need to hear is something an echo chamber will not say or even tolerate being said.

Lefty almost socialist here. Can confirm was banned from many Reddit subs for speaking honestly without animosity.

They just don't tolerate truth over there.

I was banned "go away and never come back" after I mentioned in a discussion about LGBT stuff and adding more identities to that umbrella term that it was easier when you were just allowed to call a weirdo a weirdo.

Weirdo doesn't come with government funds, so of course they would get pissed.

I bashed Islam there and was instantly met with the "but Christians did it too!" crowd. You really have to have your head in the sand to not see the difference in the two religions.

Or see how that isn't a valid counter-argument. Most redditors have their head firmly and fully up their collective asses though.

To be fair, Christianity is a pretty terrible religion. Not as bad as Islam, but they aren't saints. Only the Flying Spaghetti Monster can save us all.

That place is not where normal atheists hangout. That group is the anti-religion religion. They are a cult-like group-think group.

You are mentally much better off not being subjected to a subversive quasi religious anti-religious cult.

To be clear, I'm not saying atheism is a cult. I'm saying reddit's version of it is. It's group-think or gtfo and see how I think for myself because everyone told me to think this.

[–] Gorillion 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Interesting. Because one of Youtube's new content filters apparently catches "atheism" as a contentious, flagged, almost hate-word if you try to upload a video with it in the title or description.

That sub isn't long for this world I'm guessing. Atheism = Non-Religious = Anti-Religious = Anti-islamic.

and yet they have hundreds of millions of minions.

I think you greatly exaggerate the rate of Chinese clicks with actual users.

Lets not pretend that when a strategy works for one connected group it doesn't spread like a disease to the rest (See the MSM buying chink clicks to inflate viewership).

You can still google this.

It's almost like google doesn't want to totally close the door on the Trump admin.

The alternate reality of the internet is still alternate and always will be. Walk down the street and ask the first 10 people if they use Reddit. It isn't statistical data, it's just a reminder that Reddit is a just partitioned group.

I 100% agree. I strongly disagree with many people here, and honestly a lot of the opinions I read hear disgust me. However, freedom of speech is the most important thing to me. It is a little bit discouraging because a lot of people here downvoat to disagree, but it still beats the censorship of reddit.

Absolutely drop dead stupid posts frequently get mass upvoted on Voat while good or longer posts can get downvotes or ignored. People here like fast food content. But yeah, the free speech is here that is mostly lacking on other sites with any traffic to speak of and that is the critical thing for online discussion unless one is trying to cultivate a censored circlejerk.

People here like fast food content

Everyone is looking for the perfect aggregator, but no one knows what they want. Most want vapid, repeated jokes that make them feel good, or pics that do the same.

I disagree with the idea that people don't want quality content. It's just nobody wants heavy content 24/7 and endless arguments that go nowhere and achieve nothing except creating deeply nested exchanges that no fucker wants to read. If something big drops, sure. People will ride that wave while it's in motion. But on the regular most people want a selection of stimuli. More of a buffet. And people using a buffet won't all go to the same dish at the same time.

Your argument is more about people not wanting to talk about what you want to talk about when you want to talk about it. You need to learn how to capture people's attention if that's the case. Nobody owes you eyeballs or their time.

To Joe's response:

It's only the minority that'll appreciate something like Renaissance art or a decent article on something rather highbrow.

I got books full of that shit. We've got actual living history going on right now. Renaissance Art will keep.

The highbrow world is currently populated by politically correct faggots pushing progressive agendas, and it's better to starve them out than even acknowledge they have any legitimacy by engaging them. Hopefully by pushing in our current political direction we'll get them all defunded soon enough, remove their artificially elevated platform, and imprison all their patrons for various gross crimes.

Like I said, the art will be there long after they're gone. And if they destroy it, burn it on pyres, guess what? New artists will come along and create it all over again in a new post-marxist era.

[–] Joe_McCarthy 2 points 3 points (+5|-2) ago  (edited ago)

Most people are superficial, naturally. If anything Voat is less superficial than most. People come home and want memes and abbreviated feel good stuff. It's only the minority that'll appreciate something like Renaissance art or a decent article on something rather highbrow. It's why Trump's fifth grade communication level appeals to people. The masses are asses and don't want things too complicated.

None of this bothers me especially. The widespread belief in conspiracy theories does though. It's so bad here that the usual use of irony and ridicule to marginalize conspiracists is even ineffective. It just gets downvotes.

I once wrote an aggregator that clustered people into similar groups based off what they liked and didn't like. I never could get enough people to use it to be useful tho.

I think that's a product of CCP-based censorship on voat. Those who disagree with majority opinions are regularly gagged, and the desired result is a safespace where the stupidest content can be popular so long as their ideology is 'correct'.

Disclaimer: If we’re conversing, I will soon fall silent. I may want to continue, but because my views are unpopular here I have less than 100 CCP, and am temporarily banned as soon as I make 10 comments in a day. Voat does not respect free speech. Don’t be a hypocrite and pretend that it does.
