The Kushites, who were often subjects of the Egyptians, were Nubians and likely black appearing.

They comprised the 25th dynasty of Egypt after conquering and controlling Egypt for a short time (~100 years).

This is likely where the idea of black Pharaohs comes from, though in all probability, only the first couple would have been recognizably "black" by today's standards.

However, even during this time there would have been very few common people who appeared black, as the Egyptians were an incredibly insular society, especially in terms of martial intermingling.

Yes. The Nubians had characteristics now attributed to black people.

Black people calling themselves Nubians is like Columbus calling Native Americans Indians. It's a mistake in history that has been accepted.

Yeah, people of sub-Saharan decent claiming Nubia as their cultural heritage are about as accurate as a Slav claiming Chinese heritage.

Off by one massive and largely impassable land barrier.
