When Trump goes after sanctuary cities and states, to the tune of "Federal Law Trumps City and State Laws," and he is the God Emperor.
But mention going after pot, and he is suddenly pond scum.
So which is it?
Has Voat always been a hangout for sheep, or is the intelligent and reasonable goat foundation just being overshadowed by the redditfugees?
It sounded like everyone here was fully behind the "Nation of Laws" president, but it really is sounding an awful lot like the herd mentality is "As long as he only enforces the laws that I want him to, then he is a good president."
States can't pass laws that violate federal laws. Period.
As much as I wish my state would legalize recreational use, I also know that it could be taken away very easily because it violates federal law. Which would suck, but it would also not be unexpected... not a one of us here doesn't remember watching Colorado to see what would happen when they made recreational use legal. We watched because we knew they could end up pissing off the feds, and it could have gotten ugly. But did we all think the federal law just didn't matter any longer when it didn't get ugly?
And now, along comes Trump and his Illegal Immigrant deportation plan and travel ban, and the crowd goes wild.
"He's actually going to stop the migrant refugees from coming in! And all he's doing is enforcing a law that already exists! Sweet!"
"He's really going to deport all of the illegal immigrants! And all he's doing is enforcing a law that already exists! Sweet!"
"Wait... take my weed? Fuck that. I don't agree with that law. He's a cunt if he enforces that law.
Am I the only one stunned by the dichotomy between those statements?

He said specifically during the campaign that we should leave weed up to states whenever he was asked that question. He said he will enforce federal law against illegal immigrants.
Nothing has even happened yet other than Jeff Sessions mentioning he doesn't like the idea of weed being legal. People about the weed issues are kind of freaking out about nothing if you ask me.
But that's what was said during the campaign about both issues. "Let the states decide about weed" and "we will use extreme vetting and enforce the laws on immigration" That's the facts.

Pretty much this. I would add that we want the law and order president but that doesn't mean everyone agrees that the laws we have are good. For this discussion the majority of people want weed legalized. Part of law and order is sometimes changing the law to be in line with what the people want. And that is where OP is having a problem understanding this. He doesn't seem to grasp that people think laws should be updated and that the only option is to enforce draconian laws. There is more to law and order than that.

No. It is refreshing to see more people than myself articulating the idea that the laws should be applied equally, and that members of the government should do their jobs as defined... And that changing those definitions (the Constitution and US laws) versus selective enforcement is the way to bring about change.

Neither?
He's making an incredibly stupid mistake by going after pot like this, frankly. Waste of time, money, energy. I presume he's doing it for the sake of political expediency (read: attempting to curry favor with the conservatives by giving one of their more idiotic pet projects - the War on Drugs - a continued lease on life it doesn't really deserve) rather than any sort of genuine personal conviction.

He is responsive to attention. If everyone who smoked weed was persistently but politely vocal in petitioning Trump to adopt sensible marijuana policies, he would probably do the right thing.
