Comments claim these are different plants servicing South America. The one they've cancelled is still cancelled...

I am an engineer for Ford, this is a BS story and MISLEADING at best. These are NOT the same factory Ford talked about transferring production BACK to the US, those expansions are IN THE WORKS, like the one in Flat Rock Michigan. These are PARTS Suppliers as they STATED last NOV these plants provide mostly to South America were COST is everything.

this is FAKE NEWS, these plants are NOT the Auto plants Ford talked about last fall, these are just PARTS plants.

Ford lost over $1 billion in South America in 2016, but the company says things are finally looking up.

FWIW it's the gatewaypundit. They're loaded with fake news. Another one they had was claiming that the Reddit network guy who worked for Clinton was leaking/revealing internal secret network IPs. They based it on some logs he gave with 192.168.x.y addresses. For those who know nothing about networks (including the gatewaypundit), those are special reserved IPs for repeated internal use that have absolutely no meaning outside of this. In other words it's literally the exact same thing as me saying "arbitrary address 1, arbitrary address 2, arbitrary address 3, ..." where what you and I saying would refer to completely different things.

Even worse is that there's a handful of guys that link all their clickbait and then confirmation bias kicks in and these fake stories get voted to the top making Voat look absurd.

Because then no one in Mexico can afford to buy them. If they are selling products TO the local population I got 0 problems with that country wanting manufacturing jobs in THEIR country. That's precisely what the U.S. is calling for.

Lets make sure they make good on earlier promise first.

Bad faith to print false accusations against firm that is promising to provide new American jobs.

Which is hilarious considered they were all against it when Bernie was their guy. 90% of people are emotional morons with no principle or character. Nothing bad that has come, or is coming, to America isn't deserved (because of our stupidity.) People on here like to blame our problems on outside groups, but it's the internal machine that is causing the problem. Islamic jihad on the west is the manifestation of internal issues. Blame the gate keeper, not the wolf for being a wolf.

People used to buy those three because they were The Best. They aren't anymore nor have they been for the past 20 years. Buy real American Made, Honda, Toyota and Nissan.

Thanks, I'm already familiar with kogod. Like all reports of this nature I only wish that they gave a breakdown of how much from each country is implemented per vehicle.

But like I said, being American Made! doesn't make them better cars or even the most beneficial to the American economy. Point blank, I'm sick and fucking tired of these idiot fucking morons in this country saying "I buy amurikan n' eets da bestest cuz....eets murikan!". It isn't.

Fucking Over Ripe Dung

So how long before they get called out on this move? This is from yesterday. http://archive.is/yQtzY

In an interview with Rodrigo Pacheco and Pascal Beltrán del Río for the First Issue of Information Image, Gabriel López President and CEO of Ford México on the decision to create two new plants in our country. Regarding how important our country is for its investments, he said: For those who doubt Ford is committed to Mexico, I must say that we are absolutely committed. We are under construction of two floors, a plant was canceled for business reasons. We are building a transmission plant in Irapuato and another in Chihuahua that will build medium-vehicle engines, both of which will begin operations in 2017. We are talking about two very large plants, approximately half a million products per year. They were announced around 2015 and will generate about 3,800 additional jobs to those already held. He reiterated the need to invest in our country not only for the North American market: Mexico is very important for Ford for several reasons: it is one of the main suppliers of vehicles to the United States, also of major components. In addition, Mexico provides the Ford Corporation with production material in second place. When you look at the magnitude of the numbers it is very impressive. A good part of the products are exported not only to the United States, but to Germany, China among others. And he talked about the relationship with the US government: What we will do is only ever, to work with the governments of the countries and to make note why our region is important for our businesses. It will be a long and complex process but we are confident that we will arrive at the best solution. Our company is global and the objectives we expect are equally global.

It's just business. Companies are there to make money. If it doesn't make sense to build in the states then they won't build there. Instead of making the car companies out to be the bad guy all the time why not look towards some of the reasons that keep them from staying. For one the Unions salaries and benefits were ridiculously high. They averaged around $30 an hour but when you include the benefits it's actually equivalent to $70 an hour. So for 1 worker in the union you can hire probably 10 or more workers in Mexico. Hmmmm now what would a reasonable businessman do in this situation?

[–] 8Hz_WAN_IP 1 points 9 points (+10|-1) ago

In 2010, Germany produced more than 5.5 million automobiles; the U.S produced 2.7 million. At the same time, the average auto worker in Germany made $67.14 per hour in salary in benefits; the average one in the U.S. made $33.77 per hour.

What would a reasonable businessman do in this situation? (serious).

He would lobby Politicians over the years to ease the import tariffs on imported goods and final products and then move his factories and jobs overseas. This has been done and the devastation to the American workforce has been clearly seen. America used to only buy raw materials from foreign nations (rubber, etc.) but use mostly American materials and workers. Were American car companies the laughing stock of the Auto industry back then? No. No they weren't.

Undo the crappy paid-for trade deals and force the manufacturers back to their homeland and they will do just fine, it will then only be a matter of currency correction to keep them profitable.

Lol I implied that companies need better conditions here for them to stay and you just said pretty much the same thing. Of course companies given the current conditions would want to lobby for lower import taxes. But if the conditions were better here then they will want to stay. Forcing them to stay and pay higher taxes and hire more expensive labor just cuts into their bottom line which means they will not be able to keep up with international competition in terms of innovation and production. The ones who suffer in the end will be the consumers who are forced to pay for a more expensive product that isn't as good at their international counter part.

I own a couple of the only smart phone that was made in America.

They did so terribly the company is now owned by China, and the manufacturing of course isn't done in America any more.

That's what the future looks like right now.

hire third world help, get third world products

0

[–] lyin4rmu 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

You have to remember that not everyone wants a first world product. Take for example the fitness industry. There are obvious niche markets where you can get your exercise equipment from, say, walmart or you can get equipment from big fitness companies like Precor or Life Fitness. Is one product better than the other? Sure. But that does not mean the low quality product is any less desirable to the consumer base that it is aimed at.
