If Kuwait could be considered connected at all, it certain isn't the beginning.

Also, I don't give a shit about Kuwait or the people that live there.

Well in the 90's Iraq invaded Kuwait. This was of great concern to all the countries in the region because, only a couple years before they used chemical weapons on Iran killing up to 100k people and then a couple years after that they used chemical weapons again this time on fellow Iraqi's. At the time of this Iraq was the 4th or 5th most powerful army and air force in the world.

So all of the countries in the region Saudi Arabia, Jordon, UAE, etc. begged us to help. We were worried that they would attack Israel with chemical weapons and that Israel would Nuke them and start nuclear world war 3. If you're old enough you may even remember Iraq firing scud missiles at Israel and them being intercepted by then untested patriot missiles.

So anyways with all the begging and risk of a world ending war, we were forced to get involved. We unleashed a devastating air war vs Iraq destroying almost all of their aircraft and tanks. Iraq tried everything even igniting all of its own oil wells in an attempt to block out the sky with black smoke so our jets couldn't attack his forces anymore(it failed). After a few days of bombardment and with the help of ground forces we were able to rout them out of Kuwait.

George Bush sr. called the marines off and he cut off the ground war because he didn't want any US soldiers dying in Iraqi chemical war. After that the UN stepped in and started dismantling Iraqi chemical weapons programs and set to work on putting out the massive oil fires all over the country. During this time Bill Clinton was elected, he continued to do small scale air strikes through out the region but, ended up starting another war that took our attention away from Iraq and dismantling the chemical weapons programs.

At this point Iraq hates us because instead of killing Kuwaiti's and what not Saddam turned his wrath on his own people. Brutalizing them in ways you hadn't seen since the dark ages. Melting with acid, sawing in half from balls to brains, hangings, shootings, whatever. Then 9/11 happened.

Some how we blame a guy heading a terrorist group in Afghanistan and we invade Afghanistan. Surprise surprise all the people in Iraq that fucking hate us for blowing up there country and then letting their dictator brutalize them. They now want to help out that group in Afghanistan that was killing Americans.

In war you just can't let an enemy get resupplied so into a ground war in Iraq we go..

Hopefully you can connect the dots from there.

I remember Kuwait.

Iraq accused Kuwait of stealing their oil using slant drilling. Iraq also had incentive to extract money from Kuwait over this given their massive debts to the US over the Iraq Iran war. I am not saying they were right to invade Kuwait but this is the reason the Iraqi regime cited for taking action.

Now, when you bring up Kuwait with regard to the US one of the more important facts to consider is why we entered the conflict.

Kuwaiti Diplomat's daughter Nayirah lies during testimony to drum up support for the war.

Why Iraq invaded Kuwait and if was justified or not wasn't really a concern. 2 years before they invaded Kuwait Iraq used chemical weapons on its own people. Most were afraid Iraq would take over Saudi and Iran and control all the oil in the region if we did nothing. Remember at that time Iraq had the most powerful army and air force in the middle east.

That was in 1991 and there was reason to go to war. Because guess what? They were right. In 1991 Saddam Hussain DID actually have chemical weapons. I think he had to get rid of them as part of a peace deal. Who cares what that girl said to get us to air strike Iraq when the strikes were justified? These people were desperate and scared of chemical weapons being used against them. They probably knew about them and US intelligence most definitely knew. This wasn't like the 2003 fiasco.
