When the story about the shooting in Quebec first came out, it was mentioned how ridiculous it was that certain places stopped reporting on it when it was muslims who did it. Voat had a ton of posts about this. These posts all got a lot of votes and a lot of comments.
Now that it is news about a white guy doing it, its hard to find any posts about that. The posts that do exist don't have many votes or comments. So why does Voat act the same way?
If we spent some time actually discussing this stuff like we use to on Voat, we could discuss what happened with the second shooter that witnesses are talking about. I don't see why you need confirmation bias to have a discussion about something like this. I understand the disdain for fake news, but lets not perpetuate incorrect information ourselves. The reason we want free speech is because we want to be free to discuss the truth. Something you cannot do much anymore. Lets not be afraid of the truth. Lets feel free to discuss things, regardless of the outcome. We don't need to discuss things exclusively positive or just to confirm our own ideas or beliefs.
I miss the Voat that would take these discussions head on and fight to bring the truth to light. Regardless.
EDIT: Someone asked for some context. I should have provided that in the first place.
EDIT3: MetaBeta found some interesting info. A video to the interview he mentioned.
EDIT4: txp33 has some good finds as well.
EDIT5: Gorillion has a new theory. Archived link as he is linking to Reddit.
EDIT6: gazillions has a great point. (Thought I put this up here a while ago.)
EDIT7: MetaBeta did some digging. Really interesting stuff here.
