reddit: authoritarian censorship

voat: community driven censorship

is that what you're saying, fuzzy?

This perpetuates the problem. We need people of differing opinions to mingle and interact. This is the only way to humanize opposing views, rather than dehumanizing them. The way things are now, anyone with a differing opinion is often referred to in dehumanizing ways.

Getting downvoted for an opinion is pretty common around here. Don't take it personally, just 'meh' and move on :)

The downvoats don't bother me. It's their effect - making my opinion literally disappear.

It's been just another echo chamber for the ~18 months I've been around. Less in the early days, vastly more with each influx of redditfugies. What you want (downvoats for spam/non-contributing posts only) will never happen because, well, people. Power corrupts, and each time you see that negative internet point, it's just someone abusing a power. Human nature to abuse power for personal gain, that's just the way it works. About the only folks who are exempt are those who don't give a fuck, those people amount to the working poor class of America, easily ignored and forgotten because they don't matter.

So, either comment because you want to have a say AND completely forget about those "points" attached, or time to leave/stop participating in a medium that allows votes. Stick to forums without popularity points.

IMO it has gotten to be less of an echo chamber since the election.

On reddit there were a few topics that get you removed by simply being different or questioning. On Voat they are Islam, political correctness, being a suspected sjw, and loving Hillary Clinton. If any of that fits your comments then expect some resistance.

"When in Rome try not to tick off the Romans."

I've noticed the same. I'm good with resistance, not with being silenced simply for being different

I believe there are a group of people that just treat the downvoat button as a "shut the F up". How to use the downvoat is it's own debate here but you at least get the choice. It is what it is. Though look on the brightside. If someone started to actively deleting your stuff those same people would go after that person. That's the one thing almost everyone here agrees on.

Happens to me too. Same article gets posted in another sub gets upvoated but mine nothing. It happens I guess.
