the pope serves a function that has been irrelevant since the dawn of the new testament. It is a role that has ceased to be. It is no longer. It's a stiff.
He is sinful by the very nature of being a pope. And Unbelievably sinful by not telling his catholic followers the truth. He believes in heaven, but he is heading to hell.

before christ there was no direct 'communication' to god by the people because of their sin. Only the holy priests being able to come before him. You would go to the pope with a sacrifice(as a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of christ) and the pope would sacrifice it and be the mediator between god and the sinful person. the christ died once and for all to forgive all sin(conditionally) so that now everyone can stand before god (if conditions are met) and ask for forgiveness directly. Your sin is forgiven so there is no barrier that stands between you and god. No pope needed.
The temple where the priests used to worship had two rooms inside it. The holy side, and the most holy side. There was a large, heavy curtain that separated the two. When jesus died on the cross the curtain tore in two.

There has been no role of pope before the new testament, that was the job that Jesus gave Peter. What do you mean?
