Donald the duck is also the original wording that was shortened to Donald Duck. There is no real way to convert a proper noun (Donald) and the modifier (the duck) into a single verb, but that is what is being attempted here. I expect the reason "the" was used is that the pace just sounds more "right." It places more emphasis on the "Donald" part, rather than the "duck" part.

i think he should have lower cased the "donald", then i might have understood maybe a tiny bit
