Of course the Americans don't feel this way, they have no frame in which they can see or think of such a thing.

Basically speaking, an American can't accurately assess their country against the backdrop of others.

I've traveled extensively from N. America to India. I've lived in Europe and I've never met anyone who speaks in such glowing terms about the US. If anything they dislike America. Some of it's deserved, some not. I can only speak to my own first hand experience.
