I think the freedom over slavery issue is a bit stronger with Snowden flipping the bird from afar.

Snowden used to post to Arstechnica, funny enough.

I have to wonder how much of his aggressive stance may have just been wearing a mask to avoid suspicions. If you knew they were watching over every shoulder, recording every word, and you were planning to do something about it, wouldn't you want to play the least suspicious character you could, until you made your move?
of course, I also wonder if he never actually left CIA employment, and this is all part of some shadow war between branches of the government, so... speculation abounds.

'We reviewed the most secret surveillance programs in government, including the major programs that Snowden later leaked. '
'I have signed on to the letter asking President Obama to pardon Edward Snowden that was released today. '
'Not since the post-Watergate reforms of the Ford and Carter administrations has the intelligence community faced such scrutiny. '
'Before Snowden, basic information like the number of targets of the NSA’s mass surveillance operations affected by court-ordered surveillance was a closely-guarded secret. '
'Before Snowden, the secret court that authorizes intelligence surveillance never heard more than the government’s side of the argument. '
This has been an automated message.

as a first step, Snowden should stop working for the Russian government.
