Politicians and scientists usually only get famous when they are already old, as its takes a lot of time to climb the career ladder to a position of significance / to study enough to reach a significant breakthrough.
Writers, painters and other artists often remain overlooked during their lifetime and only get discovered afterwards. Literacy, paintings and other traditional art forms also have no longer the same standing in the mainstream they once had, and the internet has massively changed the distribution. When I wanted to discover new music for example, I had to browse the limited selection in the record store, watch MTV (back when they still broadcast music), listen to obscure foreign radio stations or learn of it through word of mouth. Now I just enter the genre into Bandcamp or Amazon MP3, listen through some samples and can walk out with the recording of the most obscure indie band on the other side of the globe. Same thing has been done to painting/sculpting with Deviantart/Etsy, to writing with Kindle/Smashwords etc.
