It's called freedom of expression. Everyone has a right for a opinion. The fact that you're motivated by common sense or religion don't change things.
It scares me how some people keep screaming "separation of church and state" every time a politician uses religion to justify his opinions. It's called ideology people. Religions are ideologies. It's a group of ideas. It's not the pope trying to manipulate the strings of Europe. It may be dumb, but there's nothing inherently wrong with that.
