A few things: modlogs that are constantly visible; a limit on the number of subverses you can run (10, with 3 or less 'default' subverses on your list); a CCP requirement to even request a moderator position; admins who step in to remove 'default' moderators who have gone too far (rather than just the occasional 'remove subreddit from default list, only to add 5 others that are equally bad'); users who keep an eye on any accounts known to belong to powermods from Reddit (like HenryCorp); etc.

In the end, it is theoretically possible that they could still get through, but it would take a lot more time, planning, and subterfuge than it took on Reddit. I don't think that the people behind the powermod accounts are anywhere close to being smart enough to pull such a deceit off. Over there, the admins just loudly whistled and walked away from their computer whenever the site got up in arms about powermods or toxic subreddits that the admins liked. Here, there is currently only a very small userbase that even tries to defend moderators that have gone too far.

Oh. Too much hassle to verify, so here's an up vote. Thanks for the info. It seems legit, but damn you if it's not!

A quick verification guide:

  1. Modlogs are visible in the bottom of the sidebar for any subverse on this site (and can only be hidden by a custom CSS {which can be disabled via the little gear icon in the top right}).

  2. The "10 subverse mod positions" and "3 default subverse mod positions" rules are listed on the page for /v/subverserequest's requirements as rules 7 and 8.

  3. You can also see the "100 CCP" and "30 day account age" requirements for transfers in rules 1 and 2, although these can be avoided by someone inviting another user (such as an alt of another mod) to be a moderator. The only time that an invited mod would have to go to /v/subverserequest is to try to be elevated from a level 2 mod position (be able to tag/remove posts/comments, ban users, and make sticky posts for the subverse, but not able to kick out other mods or make any major behind-the-scenes changes to the subverse) to a level 1 position.

  4. A few posts from the /v/announcements subverse about the admins talking about the issues with powermods, or removing people from default subverses for not acting in the spirit of Voat with their policies. A good place to see some other mod drama is the /top posts for /v/protectvoat.
