I'm forced to hear it my entire work day. If it's not a story about feminism (easily 1/4 of their content), it's about how beautiful the hijab is, how awesome Islam is, or how much they despise Trump. Waaaay back in the day they had some decent reporting, but it's almost entirely SJW shit now. They had a platform and chose to be the anti-Fox News instead of being independent and honest.

No no. It's much more important that you hear about the unique lived experiences of a gender-queer lesbian quarter-Native American retro-contemporary art curator in San Francisco as she rediscovers her roots and the art of navel-gazing.

Don't forget to make your pledge contribution!

To be fair, NPR isn't organized like 24-Hour television news. It's not there for clickbait, or scaring people into boosting ad sales. Depending on the show you are listening to, you can get pretty varying views. NPR is divided into hours of programming that focus on different topics, as opposed to a running loop with "Stories of the Day".

If you were listening to a show like The Diane Rehm show, you are going to fall asleep listening to people drone on and on about a topic that concerns them, while Diane asks just enough of a question to keep the person talking. It's like listening to a golf game with no broadcasters, the silence is broken just long enough to hear the ball make contact, then nothing for the next 3 minutes.

NPR does have a liberal bend to most of their programming though. I assume that's because the majority of their donors tend to be politically to the left. A few of the shows are just 3 people recording in a local pub or in someones living room. I like that NPR does give me actual stories, instead of constant headline news clips. I like the long format.

All in all, don't go to NPR for your news stories, go there for interesting looks into the things you didn't even think were interesting. Like how Chinese consumers want shoes manufactured in the USA, or stories about... well, an alcoholic and her self analysis about being a blackout drunk.

EDIT: Corrected a spelling mistake that changed the meaning of a whole sentence. Since I am editing this, I would like to point out that "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" is one of my favorite programs of all time, and it airs on NPR. You can get it through any podcast service also.

I have been listening all day and haven't heard any of the stories I mentioned on any of the hourly news updates or across the 3 programs that have aired since 6am this morning. I know how NPR is formatted, and they haven't managed to cover meaningful stories in several programs.

They celebrate "77% Wage gap day" as if it's not a myth. There are only two kinds of people who repeat the 77% number: People who haven't ever bothered to actually check what that number actually refers to, and people who have but don't care, and repeat it because it fits their agenda. Either way they're complete failures as reporters, so why trust anything else they say?

I used to really like NPR and even was a contributing member a while back, until the shit hit the fan in France and for two days, all the news stories pretty much said "Well, if France wasn't so racist, innocents wouldn't have died." Also, they did a story of child brides in Niger and pretty much virtue signalled across the country. Nigerians don't give a shit if a white reporter from across the sea shames them, any more than I would feel ashamed by a Saudi reporter who came here and tried to make me feel bad about having a bajingo and driving.

Honestly, its mostly SJW drivel. Every story is about persecuted refugees and/or overcoming racism of some sort.
