What does it mean when you want to support your country, but dislike it's government and the majority of people who are easily led by it?

It means you're like me. The people are idiots, the government should be much better, but I'd rather stand by this country and complain about it than move anywhere else.

I see the dilemna as an equation. How much discomfort is caused by moving to a locale without a creepy government vs amount of discomfort of staying put and living with their bullshit. Pretty sure I would move to Iceland if I was much younger. Figuring the government is more important than the winter.

The government is a reflection of the people. The fact that we allow our government to surveil and terrorize the world does not speak well for the citizenry. By comparison, Iceland (a country with 300,000 citizens) outprotested us over their leader hiding money in Panama. Threy ousetd him. They ousted their corrupt bankers. By comparison, we funnel untold funding to our corrupt "leaders". After all.....it is easy for wolves to lead sheep.

These are wise words. I don't dismiss everyone, enough people after spending time with them, have given me this impression. I give someone the benefit of the doubt, until they give me reason to think they are dumb.

So many of us are so quick to belittle other Americans yet when you look at polls on policy from the public at large, we're pretty consistently on the right side of issues. I think it's more that we've just been really effectively been divided. You have people on the right look at the left and label them as basement dwelling ideologues who want free stuff. You have people on the left look at the right and label them as trailer dwelling rednecks and racists who just want to oppress minorities.

We all, or at least the vast majority of us, just want what's best for as many of us as possible but we're so busy attacking each other that we can't see the forest through the trees and see that the people we're focusing on angst on aren't the ones who are the problem - it's the slippery little worms who utilize this angst and discord to put themselves into position of power.

I totally agree.

You have people on the left look at the right and label them as trailer dwelling rednecks and racists who just want to oppress minorities.

Honestly, these are the people I look down on. I think partisan politics are ruining this country and its people. Get rid of the parties and people will only focus on the issues.

A country is its ruling party, without the ruling party there is no real country, just a piece of land.

A people are not inherently a country, they must control something for it to be a country.

Patriotism is the manifestation of nationalism as human behavior. As much as people virtue signal by claiming to be above patriotism and that patriots are idiots supporting dumb aspects, the practical real life alternative to patriotism is cuckery.

Does a body live without the head? What if your heart decides to be patriotic and only provide blood for the body? After all, brain takes too much nutrients and is too controlling.

u ask 100 patriots what country is and ull get 100 emotive answers. theres nothing good in this. feelings are relatively easy to manipulate so they basicly are just a politically maneuver extremist mass. and i consider more or less indirectly most of them have somethign in common, that being the protection of their own goods and from here actually their love for the country is falling apart transforming them into just a bunch of hypocrites not ideological and principle fighters. in fact about what kind of ideological fighter can u be when u act emotionally.

Patriotism, like censorship is the tool of cowards with no arguments for their premises.
