This site's code base can scale easily using Azure or any other cloud platform in a matter of minutes if need be.
When the day comes that current resources are stretched, Voat will take the next step up. As of right now some server side caching has been implemented but nothing on an enterprise level (i.e. a caching layer).
Yeah, the only reason why I mentioned caching layer because in my experience, it can help you save a LOT of server costs even initially (especially with the model Reddit/Voat have). Almost all the 'guests' would receive a cached version of the page.
Later when the resources are stretched, its the caching server you scale. This also provides the "read only" mode Reddit has during lock down modes.
