Rules shoud be clear, some subverses have "be nice" as a rule but no definition of what nice is, and it turns out not agreeing with or contrwdicting the mod is "not nice" bullshit like that can't stand.

Can't agree more. Rules ought to be clear and predictable. It makes it easier for mods and communities alike.

Case in point - I said something nice, but used the words "nigger faggots" on /v/Frugal. My post was deleted and I was banned for breaking rule #1 - Be Nice, even though what I said was nice. There are no rules against saying nigger faggot or any other terms of joking endearment.

I got banned from v/frugal for saying to grow a beard to save money on shaving. It was the inspiration of my comment. I also advised buying a condom.

Yay Putt! Thank you! This should be great for constraining power-tripping mods (you know who you are).

Hey Putt. This sounds great, but how is the site still running? Did you find funding? Why are you developing more features instead of switching the site to Lingres, or did I miss something?

Why aren't you focusing on making the site sustainable through advertizing? We already use and love Voat. We want it to stick around more than anything.

I don't normally use "we" like this and you all can call me out if I'm wrong, but I think I'm correct on this one.

Formatting in the Rules page and edit page are hard to follow in night mode.

Miss you, man. You need to post (anything) more, but on topic, i will be taking progamming in the next semester predominantly for you, and the greater Voat community by the end of fall. Wanted to this semester, but classes didnt line up with work. Now I am doing 16 hour days... yay booze!

Preview Site:

IT'S ALIVE!

We'll get right on this. Sounds like this feature really has promise, and will work well with the democratization feature methinks.

Great work, Putt. Not sure if this has been in the works for long or if it's a response to the recent /v/gaming drama, but if the latter then this turnaround time is insane!

This feature has always been a planned feature and multiple updates in the past have implemented portions of this feature (Reporting feature originally introduced it).

We need this feature so we can have the community vote to modify the rules which govern it and so this is just a part of the bigger picture.

/v/gaming is the reason this was released so soon though

Voting on rules for moderation scares me.

Censorship approved by a majority is still censorship.

The artificially created v/gaming drama would be easier solved by not allowing certain subs to flagrantly shit all over a sub in a coordinated attack.

That same certain sub also did the same to v/frugal

The reason being the raid of or the mod of?

I think it comes at a good time. No feature is going to be perfect at first release and big features like this ought to come at a time when the community supports them.

I'm uncertain, but I don't see a reason not to (cautiously) move forward. As a system mod there's nothing I'd like more than to be rendered obsolete. I don't know if there's a way for a community to 100 percent run itself democratically but I think the attempt should be made.

I think that with the current system mods add a lot of value by doing the things a community can't take care of on their own. But even mods work within the wants of the community. Provide a way for the community to enact its wants democratically and mods are no longer necessary.

In an ideal world, there's a way. But in a less than perfect system there's so much that can go slightly wrong and lead to huge and far-reaching consequences.

But hell, the current system has those risks as well, with much more concentrated effect.
