OK, so I just gave it another couple of tests using truepundit.com content:

Neither of these posts to real-Voat or preview-Voat had thumbnails... which seemed unexpected... so I also found the exact same post on Reddit which does have a thumbnail...


I then waited 20 mins and tried again with another True Pundit post to both environments:


I don't know if this helps at all, but it does seem that real-Voat and preview-Voat are both suffering thumbnail reliability problems, but from my very limited set of tests, it seems real-Voat may be less affected.

That said, yes, I have seen this problem in real-Vote a handful of times in the past. Previously I've deleted posts that didn't show a thumbnail and waited a while and tried again.

Voat uses a restricted form of thumbnails and if the destination site does not have the meta data for the page, Voat does not grab another image to use as a thumbnail. We should expand this code but as of right now this is to be expected.
